* Merriam Webster's Guide to International Business Communications.
With a name like Merriam Webster on it, you know this is a sound reference
work. The first 80 pages offer excellent advice on how to communicate globally.
This is stuff you'd never think off, and it is great that Toby Atkinson did.
For example, he points out that thin lines get lost in faxing and copying,
so make sure your letterheads and forms do not use 'light' fonts. And ruled
lines on forms usually fax as jagged lines. And that beautiful 4-color arty
logo looks like a black blob once it has been faxed and copied and faxed again
a few times!
This book is essential for anyone working in global communications. From mastering global mail, fax, and phone systems to handling export documentation, the guide explains everything you need to know about the nuts and bolts of international communication. It has a separate section for each of the 36 countries that represent 90 percent of U.S. international trade, in much more detail than included above.     Toby Atkinson does a masterly job of making The Guide to International Business Communications practical and comprehensive. A revised version is available that adds e-mail and internet communications to its repertoire.
